i. We believe in promoting positive behaviour.
ii. We aim to encourage self-discipline, consideration for each other, our surroundings and property.
iii.By praising children and acknowledging their positive actions and attitudes, we hope to ensure that children see that we value and respect them.
iv.Nursery rules are concerned with safety, care and respect for each other. Children who behave inappropriately, whether by physically abusing another child of adult e.g, by kicking, biting, or verbal bullying, may be removed from the group. The child who has been upset will be comforted and the adult will confirm that the other child's behaviour is not acceptable. It is important to acknowledge that a child is feeling angry or upset, and that it is the behaviour we are rejecting, not the child.
v.How a particular type of behaviour is handled will depend on the child and the circumstances. It may involve the child being asked to talk and think about what he or she has done. It may be that the child will not be allowed to make his/her choice of activities for a limited period of time.
vi.The child will also be asked to see if the person who was upset is alright and, if they mean it, to say or show that they are sorry. An immediate response of 'sorry' is not accepted is the child does not mean it, but is merely saying the word in the hope of being able to continue playing.
vii.We need to give children non-aggressive strategies to enable them to stand up for themselves so that adults and children listen to them. they need to be given opportunities to express their feelings more creatively.
vii.Parents will be informed if their child is persistently unkind to others, or if their child has been upset. In all cases, inappropriate behaviour will be dealt with in school at the time parents may be asked to meet with staff to discuss their child's behaviour, so that if there are any difficulties we can work together to ensure consistency between home and Nursery. In some cases we may request additional advice and support from other professionals, such as an educational psychologist or Child Guidance Counselor.
ix.Children need their own time and space. It is not always appropriate to expect a child to share, and it is important to acknowledge a child's feelings and to help them understand how others might be feeling.
x.Children must be encouraged to recognize that bullying, fighting hurting and racist comments are not acceptable behaviour. We want children to recognize that certain actions are right, and others are wrong.

All health and safety documents must be available for inspection at all times.
No smoking on the premises.
No hot drinks in any room occupied by child/children.
No inappropriate jewellery to be worn. One pair of stud earrings and a wedding ring is acceptable.
Dress code: smart and practical with sensible shoes.
No running inside the premises.
All electrical sockets should be protected by safety plugs, no trailing wires.
All cleaning materials/toilet cleaner to be placed out of the reach of children.
All fire exits to be clearly marked and free from obstruction.
All fire extinguishers to be clearly labeled.
A copy of the fire drill should be clearly visible at all fire exits.
Protection clothing should be worn when serving food.
Never leave scissors, or potentially dangerous objects lying within a child’s reach.
No nuts of any description, including peanuts and their by-products, are allowed in the nursery.
Any accident involving body fluid must be reported to the senior First Aider on duty.
All staff must familiarize themselves with the location and contents of the First Aid cabinet.
Any medication is to be administered by the Nurse only.
No medication is to be administered by management/teachers/nanny.
No students should be left unattended/unsupervised at any time.
Under no circumstances may a member of staff take a child from the Nursery unless written consent has been obtained from the parent of the mentioned child.
The office/management should be informed before 8am if a member of staff is not well enough to work. This includes all gastric problems and high temperatures
Parents are partners in their child’s preschool experience. Administrators, teachers and parents share information and discuss goals for each child. An active Parent’s Association organizes educational and social activities and events that provide many opportunities for parents to form lasting friendships.
1.The nursery team will work with parents as partners, to provide quality care for their children.
2.All parents are welcome to visit the Nursery at any time.
3.Parents will have access to their child’s records and will be consulted with regard to the care given.
4.A ‘Suggestion System’ is in operation.
5.Parents are given a copy of all the policies of the Nursery.
6.Parent groups will be accorded hospitality and all facilities on the Nursery premises.
1.Minimum periods of exclusion from nursery
2.Antibiotics Prescribed – First 2 days at home.
3.Temperature – If sent home ill, the child must take off for 24 hours.
4.Vomiting – If sent home ill, the child must take off for 24 hours.
5.Diarrhea - 24 hours.
6.Chickenpox – 7 days from the appearance of the rash
7.Gastroenteritis, Food poisoning, Salmonellosis and Dysentery – Until authorized to return by a doctor.
8.Infective Hepatitis – 7 days from onset of Jaundice.
9.Measles -7days from appearance of the rash.
10.Poliomyelitis – Until declared free from infection by a doctor.
11.Pertussis (whooping cough) – 21 days from the onset of paroxysmal cough.
12.Rubella (German Measles) – 4 days from the appearance of the rash.
13.Scarlet fever and streptococcal infection of throat – Until appropriate medical treatment has been given and in no case for less than 3 days from the start of treatment..
14.Tuberculosis – Until declared free from the infection by a doctor.
15.Typhoid fever – Until declared free from infection by a doctor.
16.Impetigo – Until the skin has healed.
17.Pediculosis (Lice) – Until appropriate treatment has been given.
18.Plantar Warts – No exclusion. Should be treated and covered.
19.Ringworm of the scalp – Until cured.
20.Ringworm of the body – Seldom necessary to exclude, if treatment has been given.
21.Scabies – Need not be excluded once appropriate treatment has given.
1.In the event of a fire, notify Civil Defence, and alert the staff and children by ringing the fire bell. Staff must gather their class together, collect the attendance register and proceed to the designated exit and assembly point.
1.DO NOT STOP to collect belongings.
2.Children must be removed from the building in a prompt and orderly manner.
3.Teachers are responsible for checking the attendance register and accounting for all children present on the day.
4.Should the fire be a small, localized one, a member of staff can operate the appropriate fire extinguisher to douse the fire.
5.Efforts to contain the fire should not jeopardize the safety of any child or member of staff.
6.Civil Defence is to be contacted as soon as the fire is detected.
Hygiene in Baby/ Toddler Unit
1. Hands must be washed with an antibacterial cleanser before and after changing nappies.
2. Nappies must be placed in nappy bag before being disposed of.
3. Plastic baby utensils brought from home must be used to feed babies, if necessary. On no account must a child be hand fed, unless stipulated by that child’s parent. In this case, hands must be washed prior to, and after feeding.
3. Hands must be washed prior to preparing any baby formula. On an account should a bottle be shacked with hands/fingers covering the nipple/teat.
4. If a baby’s bottle or pacifier falls on the floor, it must be washed in sterilized or pre-boiled water before returning it to the child, or to its case/container.
5.All baby bottles are to be kept with their tops on when not being used.
Procedure for bathroom routine
1.Bathrooms are to be cleaned in the morning and afternoon.
2.Toilets are to be thoroughly cleaned with diluted disinfectant, and toilet cleaner is to be used around the rim.
3.Sinks are to be cleaned with cream cleaner.
4.Soaps are to be replaced when required.
5.Toilet rolls are to be replaced when required.
6.Floors are to be cleaned with diluted Flash, morning and afternoon, using a dedicated bathroom mop only.
7.Bins are to be emptied daily.
8.Mirrors are to be polished daily.
9.Windows are to be kept clean and tidy.
10.J-cloths are to be thrown away after use.
11.Toilets are to be flushed after every use.
12.Gloves and aprons must be worn when cleaning the bathroom.
13.Bathroom doors are to be kept open at all times.
